I have a similar splitting problem with just one nail and filing does not help since it seems to be a defect in the way the nail forms. If the problem is ALWAYS in the same place then this may also be your problem.

I find that hardeners with protein help for my problem, as well as refreshing the application of nail hardener daily. This doesn't cure it but protein helps build the nail.

Anyone have a better way of dealing with this?
