Gothic Nail Care Forum OOOOUUUUCH... Posted By: Nesha Yesterday I was reminded why I don't wear fake nails.
I had just recently cut my real nails which had gotten pretty long, but then decided my nails looked too stubby. I dug around in my bin of nail stuff & found an unused package of glue-on nails, the cutesy kind with designs & stuff. I glued them on & was all proud b/c they looked really good. Then, about 2-3 hours later, I started feeling a hot, burning pain emanating from my cuticles. They were kinda reddish too, but it wasn't too bad at first & I figured that since I hadn't work fakes for almost a year, maybe my nails just weren't used to them & that the pain would go away in a few hours. I was wrong. The pain intensified all day long until it reached an eye-watering level. I was shaking my hands & going "OH GOD IT HURTS!!!" & hopping around like a wierdo. I kid you not, my fingers felt like they'd been smashed with a hammer & then rubbed raw with a cactus. I did natural childbirth(not intentionally though!), I have had abscessed teeth, and I deal with stomach ulcers every day, so I know pain. And this was painful.
Taking them off was torture. I have this solvent stuff that cuts through plastic & glue like a hot knife through butter(therefore leaving my real nails damage-free b/c I don't have to file or yank off the fakes), and while it didn't sting or anything, merely rubbing it on my nails made me see stars. It took me an agonizing hour to get all 10 off. W/in another hour the pain was almost gone. This was yesterday & as of right now there is no trace of pain or redness.
If anyone can explain why the heck this could have happened to me, I'd be much obliged as I can't figure out why.
Oh, and the moral of the story is- don't wear those cutesy glue-on nails.
