hey, i just had my nails done for christmas break. i am in cooking school, and i can not have really long nails. i had gel nails applied. and what i was told by the girl was that acrylic nails are very rigid and they are also porous and that is how bacteria can form underneither the nail. it gets under the acrylic gel and what not.
the gel nails that i had done were more 'soft' or 'non rigid' in the gel. and the girl said they are non porous and there is almost no chance of an infection.

where as the "wear them for a few monthes and that's it" it was honnestlly a mistake. i had them done for 3 weeks then removed and i have never been sorrier. my nail beds are weak, and if i manage to get any length, they tear and break. it's terrable.

if you plan on having them for a while (6 or more) monthes you might be ok. but dont bother to have them done for any less then 3 monthes, it's not worth it.
