You might want to consider silk wraps. This is a piece of silk that is adhered to the nail with adhesive to make the nail stronger. Most manicurists can do this. It is MUCH less damaging than getting acrylic overlays, which help to keep a long, natural nail, but destroy the nail underneath. DO NOT USE crazy glue or super glue for this; this will ruin the nail. You must use adhesive just for silk wraps. Once you see it done once you will be able to do it for yourself. Anyway, this will keep your nail from splitting while it grows out. If you file the split, your nail will become weaker and the problem will feed on itself forever. Hope this helps!
