the fingers that you use the most tend to slow nail growth, for instance, your index, middle, and sometimes your thumbnail will grow slower on one hand from writing. i don't know if any other activities will slow growth or not. also if you wear rings, try not to play with them alot, since they tend to collide with nails quite often.
