It sounds like the problem may be with your top coat. Is it very thick or old? If so, throw it out and get a new bottle. You may also be applying it too thickly; try two thin coats instead of one thick one. As for the tips chipping after four days, again I think it may be your top coat (unless you're washing dishes without rubber gloves or have your hands in water a lot). A touch of extra top coat at the tips can help.
