bad rat!?!!!

i dont know if you can help me or have any ideas but ive got a pet rat and long nails but the prob is he has started chewing my nails i mean its quite funny coz i only just got over the same habit but its ruining my nails hes a lovey rat but its every time i handle him which is twice a day at least ive tried telling him no but it will take ages to train him and i dont think my nails will last that long i cant put bad tasting stuff on my nails because he wouldnt recognise my scent and would bite me and it might poison him.

difficult dilemma i know but please ny suggestions would be appreciated
