Sometimes nail ridges are caused by trauma to the nail matrix (the part of the nail under the cuticles where new nail tissue forms). If you're aggressive with cuticle pushers or buffers, it can cause these ridges. Ridges may also be genetic. If they've always been there, there isn't much you can do about them other than buffing gently and using a ridge-filling polish.
