Soaking your hands in water, cold or otherwise, will sap both your skin and your nails of moisture. In time, your nails will become weak and brittle and your skin will become very dry and itchy.
This is the reason that we nail techs tell our clients to always wear rubber gloves when doing dishes and housework.
