Nails and playing the Guitar

I've started growing my nails and they got really long which I love. How can I keep them from breaking and getting weaker caused by my guitar playing? All you Goths out there, any suggestions?
Advice would be well appreciated! And giving up the guitar wouldn't be an option... ;)
