And here I was thinking that the British are more progressive about this sort of thing; your television programs and other media (like newspapers) seem a lot more permissive than what we have over here in America, so I guess I was under the impression that something as simple as men wearing nail polish would be pretty commonplace. Sigh.
I have 2 clients that request color polish, and one does so for cosmetic reasons (his nail beds are rather bluish due to a hereditary condition, he is very self-conscious about them, so I apply a sheer pink-beige polish most of the time). My other client comes in every once in awhile and gets black polish, he plays drums in a band around here. As far as I know, these guys are both straight.
Well, I guess there's always Dennis Rodman (the basketball player with the Chicago Bulls & Los Angeles Lakers; very flamboyant, straight, and wears every color of nail polish) to look to for inspiration!
