Out here where I live (San Francisco Bay Area), there are quite a few stores that cater to men who cross-dress, and it's not too unusual to see cross-dressers on the streets. But I've lived in a few other places here in America, and this is the exception rather than the rule. You're right, all it would take would be the right celebrity showing up wearing polish, and it would become all the rage! Well, we are making progress, slowly but surely...a few years ago, men didn't even get plain old ordinary manicures and pedicures, and now I'd have to estimate that 40% of my clientele is male.
(Ten years ago when I lived in Dallas, Texas, I worked as the only manicurist in a barbershop for men, so all of my clients were men. Again with the gender thingy: nobody asked for colored polish, just clear...but that is a step in the right dircetion, don't you think?)
