Help! I quit nail bitting after 30yrs now what?

Help!I finally quit the nail bitting habit. This site has given me alot of valuable info. I still don't know much about nails. I don't want to go to fake. The white half moons (called?) 3mm-6mm is this healthy? My natural nail color is baige is this healthy? Some people have wrote use a oil that will penetrate the nail. What oils? Olive Oil? Mineral Oil?. I want to keep them short until I get them in great shape, I'd rather not pay for manicures yet. Some nails are shaped bad(the worst)my pinky is 1.5 cm starting at 1 cm it grows down. The pictures are great! Thanks for the site!
