removing tips

I read what you put on the site about going to a professional to have the tips removed, but the last time I did this, they did not soak them, instead, they took another tip and pryed the tip off. It was so painful, I thought I would cry. And it ripped my nails.

Can I soak them in something at home? I have not been back to the salon in about a month, so they are pretty grown out and starting to loosen, but I don't want to pry them off.

Help!!!
