In Response To: question on Silk & Gel Overlay Nails.... (Janice)

I got gel nails about two weeks ago and it was a horrible experience. It was the first time that I had ever gotten fake nails, so I was actually looking forward to it. My own nails grow very nicely, but this cold Wisconsin winter attributed to some major breakage and I wanted them to look nice for my birthday.
Two hours after getting them done, while I was at home, my fingers started to ache but only slightly. I ignored it, thinking that perhaps it was just the glue drying all the way through or something (I don't know, like I said, it was my first time). By the third hour, my fingers were on fire and I wanted to saw them off my hands. They were impossible to get off, and I had to go to Walgreens in the middle of the night to purchase 100% acetone because that's the only thing that will get them off. I took me hours to remove the gel gunk that instantly hardens once you remove it from the acetone. It took about 2 days for my fingers to feel normal again (4 days for my thumbs) and now I am scarred for life. My mother and sister are both just as sensitive as I am (my mother much more so) and nothing happened to them. I went to the same exact place, got the same man to work on them, and look what happened to me? Never again!! Never EVER AGAIN!!
