It seems you have more questions than problems!
1.Your hypothyroidism doesn't seem to be causing your problem. It's your diet. I have yet to meet a vegetarian with nice hair or nails!Plants do not grow either hair or nails. I'm sure you get alot of vitamins & minerals, but if you don't eat dairy or are a good little photophobic goth who stays out of the sun, you are not getting vitamin D or K. CALCIUM & PROTIEN BUILD STRONG HAIR & NAILS. I am sure that you are not getting enough protien! Soy protien is good, but fish protien is better, if you don't eat fish, but it wouldn't go against your principals, try a fish oil supplement (Omega fatty acids) or (Yuck) cod liver oil. this will help emmensely.
*Dry peeling nails can also be caused by Psoriosis or eczema. If you have these conditions elsewhere, this is a distinct possibilaty.
2. The shape of your nail beds could be from nail biting, but it is more likely genetic. Most people either have their mothers hands or their fathers hands. (some of my friends keep these in a box at the back of their closet)Nothing can be done to change the natural shape of your nails. Artificial nails can make your nails appear uniform.
3. Let me unconfuse you. Your skin & cuticles need moisture. Your nails, being dead tissue, do not.(NAILS DO NOT BREATHE!) Lotion used regularly on your hands should elliminate the need for a seperate cuticle cream. I hate the term nail hardener! They should be called treatments because some are hardeners & some are conditioners. Soft peeling nails need a hardening treatment, Brittle peeling nails need a conditioner. Nailtiques, NailTec, Sally Hansen,Avon,NutraNail, etc all make formulas for both types of nails. Read the labels. Another good treatment that gives the nails a break from polish treatments is Gena Co.'s "Healthy Hoof."
4. Try polishing your nails when you are not in a hurry! Several thin coats are better than one thick coat!
Also, try layin off the caffene & niccotine! (Caffene is not healthy for females!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
5. Your cuticle remover probabaly contains alpha hydroxy or glycolic acid, or formaldehyde & toulene. Don't use it.
